Advisor Update Fall 2024

The advisors take great joy in maintaining their Delta connections with alumni and actives alike.  I am Katie Gaw, the lead advisor for this semester.  I’m honored to work with such a wonderful group of advisors.  Each semester, we develop a special bond with the individual actives we mentor in their officer roles, and the advisor group as a whole maintains a tight support group for each other, Delta and non-Delta topics alike.  We had a great year with the actives last year and are looking forward to another.  We also had some big changes as well.

Liz (Ramirez) Callihan has taken a hiatus for now as an advisor.  Liz joined the advisors in 2020 and was instrumental in the creation and development of the active’s DEI officer, focusing on developing a better understanding and awareness of diversity, equity and inclusion within Delta and our overall impact within the UR community.  Liz’s positive impact with the actives is significant.  She is stepping back to focus on both her new job and her two boys who will be college bound shortly.  What a very busy time for Liz and we will miss her terribly!

The advisors also welcomed Carly (Burrows) Sapp this past spring.  She became a new member in the Fall of 2003 as a part of “Out Late Dancin’ 8.” She received her BA in Liberal Studies with a minor in Psychology in December 2005 (Class of 2006), her teaching credential in 2006, and her masters in Curriculum and Instruction in 2009, all from the U of R. She currently resides in Redlands, CA with her husband Brian Sapp (Class of 2005), son Connor, and daughter Emma (future Delta?). She was a classroom teacher in Redlands, grades 2-5, for 15 years before leaving the classroom to join the Innovation, Technology, and Accountability team at the district office where she supports the 17 elementary campuses with coding, robotics, digital citizenship, and other Ed Tech tools. The advisors and actives alike look forward to having Carly as an additional mentor and support to foster the sisterhood through her leadership skills.

With these updates, we are ready for a new year with the actives back on campus following summer break.  We also look forward to seeing alumni at Homecoming and the Birthday Luncheon next year!

In Delta Love,

Katie (Miller) Gaw ’97
