A recent study conducted by the University of Georgia sheds light on the profound impact of a student’s sense of belonging on their academic journey. The findings showed that students who feel connected to their institution are more likely to persist and graduate. However, a concerning pattern emerges for students who do not see themselves represented, especially those at predominately white institutions (PWIs). The study identifies higher rates of depression and anxiety among students who are not the majority race at PWIs, emphasizing the urgent need for targeted support.
